Quality educationPeace, Justice And Strong Institutions

As a result of the decentralization reform, territorial communities in rural areas receive important new competences and responsibilities in education governance, but they often lack the necessary capacities to fulfil these task.

Switzerland supports efficient, transparent and participatory education governance in rural areas of Ukraine, where it fosters trust between local authorities and citizens through improved education service and greater civic engagement of youth.

For generations, people refrained from speaking up. For most of them it was better to keep silent and passive. It produced generations of adults who were not involved in community affairs but who were eager to criticize the government. It is a heavy generational burden we want to lift thanks to our project. School pupils are now encouraged to voice their opinions and to get involved in local government. At first they did not see the point of the project. Yet from one week to another they not only learn to speak up their minds but they also lay out coherent proposals and serious projects. It is a revolution of the minds. Our youth is genuinely interested to be engaged. To be honest, we were not sure ourselves on how to go on with this project at the beginning. We had a lack of qualified staff, of infrastructure and of financing. Thanks to our partners, we improved our standards.

It is a revolution of the minds.

Our territorial community is quite young and we have been learning about decentralisation and local government along the road. But it is extremely encouraging to see that the future is already here. These young people have so many things to say and we need to engage them. After all, there may be among them the next head of our territorial community but also a minister or the next president!

#StandWithUkraine

Since 24th February 2022 This war is not a crisis. It is a tragedy that has affected absolutely all aspects of my life. There is a “before” and an “after”. It has been extremely tough from an emotional point of view. Yet I know I will not stand aside! I have to do my utmost and even more. I spent most of my time volunteering during the first month. I have been waking up at 5.30 a.m. and processing messages until 7 a.m. Then the day gains momentum. Somehow this pace helps me not to go insane. I do hope I may be able to go back to a normal pace of life and to resume my work. Yet this is a heavy blow to our state, to our education system and to our future in general. So it is going to take some time. We know that Ukraine has always found a way out. Ukrainians even manage to make up some opportunities out of the most critical situations. We do not sit idly by! Unity and solidarity - this is the only way we can grow as a strong independent state, preserve our peace and live a normal life with our loved ones.
